Be prepared for emergencies.. The Horse Sensei Equine First Aid Clinic is available to the general public when you make a donation to Midnight's Promise. The clinics include hands on practice on our demo horses at the rescue and handouts. Light refreshments are served.
Establish a first aid kit and learn what products you need to stock and why. Learn the use of common medications such as bute, SMZ, banamine and DMSO. Every horse owner should understand what the ranges for normal vital signs are and how to take them in order to accurately communicate the horse's condition to the vet on the phone. Learn to recognize choke, laminitis, eye injuries, and lacerations and puncture wounds, tendon injuries, tying up, heat exhaustion and heat stroke and to care for your horse until the vet arrives. This class utilizes latex models of wounds for wound care demonstration. Participants practice applying pressure wraps, taking vital signs, and wrapping hooves. This is approximately a 4 hour class that includes a 17 pages of class materials with photos.
